See the Bigger Picture! So say Airbus, National Geographic and the CBD Secretariat

5 June 2009 – Today, on World Environment Day 2009, Airbus, National Geographic and the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity launch a supportive campaign for The Green Wave that aims to reach out to children, youth and families, raise awareness on biodiversity, and encourage participation in The Green Wave.

Under a banner of “See the Bigger Picture”, the campaign kicks off with a photo contest for children. It will be promoted among a potential audience of 260 million worldwide through National Geographic’s global media – including the National Geographic Magazine, National Geographic Kids, their TV channel, and a brand new website (link). Along with information about the contest, they’ll be providing information on biodiversity and The Green Wave.

Ambassador for “See the Bigger Picture” is one of National Geographic’s top photographers, Joel Sartore – renowned for searching out and photographing the most endangered species on the planet. With his impressive photos he aims to help animate children and young people to get involved in exploring biodiversity.

World Environment Day aims to promote understanding that communities are pivotal to changing attitudes towards environmental issues and to advocate partnership that will ensure all nations and peoples enjoy a safer and more prosperous future. “See the Bigger Picture” brings together one of the world’s leading companies, one of its leading non-profit organizations and the United Nations with the common goal to stimulate worldwide awareness of biodiversity and action to ensure its preservation.
