To celebrate the International Year of Biodiversity, the theme of the 2010 International Children’s Painting Competition on the Environment is Biodiversity: Connecting with Nature. The organizers are inviting entries from children and teenagers between 6 to 14 years old. Entries must be received by 15 April 2010.
The painting competition is organized every year by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the Japan-based Foundation for Global Peace and Environment (FGPE), Bayer and Nikon Corporation. It has been held since 1991 and in 2009 received more than 2.4 million entries from children in over 100 countries.
The theme for this year’s competition is biodiversity, focusing on our beautiful earth, full of different life forms and what can we do to protect it. Children’s paintings are encouraged to focus on concrete actions to preserve biodiversity such as tree planting, marine and animal conservation and restoration of coral reefs.
The organizers invite children all over the world to submit their paintings to the UNEP office in their region. The artwork can be created using crayons, colored pencils, paints, etc. on either A4 (210 × 297mm) or A3 (297 × 420mm) paper and it must reach the relevant UNEP regional office by 15 April 2010 at the latest.
