EU and ASEAN Ambassadors to the Philippines Join The Green Wave

Ambassadors of European Union (EU) countries and Member States of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) took a break from their diplomatic duties on September 30 to plant Apitong (Dipterocarpus grandiflorus) trees in Mount Makiling, Philippines. The tree planting activity was part of the global Green Wave campaign of the Convention on Biological Diversity and the EU-ASEAN Ambassadors’ Day to celebrate the 3rd founding anniversary of the ASEAN Centre for Biodiversity (ACB).



Curitiba celebrates Brazilian Tree Day with a city-wide "green wave"

A Onda Verde (The Green Wave in Portuguese) was officially launched in Curitiba, Brazil on 21 September, the Brazilian Tree Day. The city-wide event marked the start of a movement that will extend until the International Day for Biological Diversity (IBD) on 22 May, 2009.

A new partnership between The Green Wave and Airbus takes flight

The Green Wave welcomes the support of Airbus, one of the world’s major aircraft manufacturers, to help this global biodiversity campaign take off and soar. The partnership will be made official at the Farnborough International Airshow on 16 July.



Schools and youth groups hold Green Wave celebrations on all continents in 2008

Thank you to all the enthusiastic students, teachers, youth groups and their supporters who made The Green Wave’s first year a success. On 22 May 2008, students participated from Australia, Canada, Colombia, Ecuador, Germany, India, Kenya, Malaysia, Mauritius, Mexico, Namibia, Nigeria, Paraguay, the Philippines, Russia, Seychelles, Singapore, South Africa, and the United States of America.

With the 2008 Green Wave celebrations winding down, preparations for The Green Wave 2009 campaign are underway. In June, these preparations took us to Stanvanger, Norway for the 2008 Tunza International Children’s Conference on the Environment to launch the beginning of The Green Wave 2009.
